What the work is
In India this work is done in CA firms, by articled assistants and qualified staff, and for government accounts by the Indian Audit and Accounts Department under the Comptroller and Auditor General. The figure on this page is the government route.

Through a CA firm
Most private audit work is learned during CA articleship. Firms also hire commerce graduates, CA Intermediate candidates and newly qualified CAs as associates.
Through SSC
Government Auditor posts (pay level 5) and Assistant Audit Officer posts (pay level 8) are filled through the SSC Combined Graduate Level examination.
Who signs
Under section 141 of the Companies Act, 2013 only a chartered accountant, or a firm of chartered accountants, can be appointed auditor of a company. Associates work under one.

Is that the take-home pay?
No. A figure given as basic pay leaves out dearness allowance, house rent allowance and the other allowances paid on top of it, and it is before income tax and provident fund or NPS deductions. The CTC breakup calculator on this site works out a monthly in-hand figure from a CTC.
Is an SSC Auditor the same as an audit associate in a CA firm?
The work is alike, checking accounts against evidence, but the employers differ. The SSC post audits government accounts at a fixed pay level; a CA firm's associate audits companies and is paid what the firm offers.
