The post is a legal requirement for many companies. Under section 203 of the Companies Act, 2013 and its rules, every listed company, and every company with paid-up share capital of ₹10 crore or more, must have a whole-time company secretary.
For most students the ICSI course begins with the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET).
Students then pass the Executive and Professional programmes.
Practical training follows; on completing it the student becomes an Associate member of ICSI (ACS).
LIC and Coal India both recruit company secretaries; their posts are the figures on this page.

No. A figure given as basic pay leaves out dearness allowance, house rent allowance and the other allowances paid on top of it, and it is before income tax and provident fund or NPS deductions. The CTC breakup calculator on this site works out a monthly in-hand figure from a CTC.
A listed company, and any company with paid-up share capital of ₹10 crore or more, must have a whole-time company secretary under section 203 of the Companies Act, 2013 and rules 8 and 8A of the Companies (Appointment and Remuneration of Managerial Personnel) Rules, 2014.
