What the work is
Most work for contractors, facility-management companies and factories, or on their own; government departments, railways and research organisations also hire tradespeople as technicians. The figure on this page is ISRO's Technician-B post at the U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, which covers eight trades, Electrician and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning among them.
How people enter it
An ITI trade certificate
Industrial Training Institutes teach the trades under the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), and a trade certificate is the standard qualification. ISRO's Technician-B posts ask for SSLC plus an ITI, NTC or NAC in the trade from NCVT.
Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961 gives paid on-the-job training and ends in a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
A licence for electrical work
Electrical wiring work generally needs a permit or certificate of competency from the State's electrical licensing authority under the national electrical-safety rules.
Government technician posts
ISRO centres, railways, public-sector companies and defence establishments advertise technician posts for ITI holders, usually filled by a written test and a trade (skill) test.
What the pay figures say
One dated figure is on file. It comes from an employer's own notice. It took effect on 24 October 2026. Each card says what the figure is; open "How the figure is read" for the method and what it leaves out.

Technician-B, Level 3; Rs. 21,700 per month as printed × 12. Basic pay of the level × 12; excludes DA and other allowances (ISRO provides transport and limited housing in lieu of TA and HRA).
Limits. Basic pay only; allowances excluded. One employer (ISRO) at entry, SSLC plus an ITI trade certificate; contractor and self-employed trade earnings are not covered.
Trade and skill: a licensed electrician or a specialist trade such as air-conditioning or instrumentation earns more than a helper.
Employer: government technician posts follow the pay matrix with allowances; contractors and agencies must pay at least the minimum wage for skilled work, and many pay more.
Self-employment: many tradespeople work for themselves, and their earnings depend on the work they find.
Questions
What do the Electrician / Plumber / Skilled Trades posts on this page pay?
ISRO (Department of Space), Technician-B (Level 3): Technician-B basic × 12 (Level 3), recorded here as ₹2,60,400 a year (ISRO URSC Advt. No. URSC:04:2026).
Is that the take-home pay?
No. A figure given as basic pay leaves out dearness allowance, house rent allowance and the other allowances paid on top of it, and it is before income tax and provident fund or NPS deductions. The CTC breakup calculator on this site works out a monthly in-hand figure from a CTC.
Which trades does the ISRO figure cover?
Technician-B at the U R Rao Satellite Centre covers Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, Electrician, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Turner, Machinist, Motor Vehicle Mechanic and Electroplater, all at the same pay level in the notice. Plumbing and welding posts were not part of this advertisement.
Basic pay only; allowances excluded. One employer (ISRO) at entry, SSLC plus an ITI trade certificate; contractor and self-employed trade earnings are not covered.
