Sukanya Samriddhi: the questions people ask
How is Sukanya Samriddhi maturity calculated?
Deposits go in for 15 years and the account runs until 21 years from opening. Interest at 8.2% for October to December 2026 is worked on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of each month and credited once a year, and it keeps compounding after the deposits stop. The calculator works the account month by month in that way.
Is this Sukanya Samriddhi calculator free?
Yes. It is a free Sukanya Samriddhi calculator: no sign-up, and the figures you type stay in your browser. It works the account the way the Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme does and shows the maturity value at 21 years, the interest and the tax-free return. You can share the result as a link or a PDF.
What is the Sukanya Samriddhi interest rate now?
8.2% a year for October to December 2026, unchanged since 1 January 2024. The Government sets it every quarter and the balance earns whatever rate is notified for the time, so the maturity value is an estimate at today’s rate.
How much will ₹1.5 lakh a year in Sukanya give at maturity?
At today’s 8.2%, ₹12,500 a month (₹1.5 lakh a year, the most it takes) for 15 years puts in ₹22.5 lakh and grows to about ₹69.33 lakh at 21 years, all tax-free. ₹5,000 a month grows to about ₹27.73 lakh.
Who can open a Sukanya Samriddhi account?
A parent or guardian, in the name of a daughter under 10. Deposits are ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year, for 15 years.
When can money be taken out of Sukanya Samriddhi?
Half the balance can be withdrawn for her higher education once she turns 18 or passes Class 10, and the account can be closed on her marriage after 18. Otherwise it pays out at 21 years from opening.
Sukanya Samriddhi or PPF for a daughter?
Sukanya pays 8.2% against PPF’s 7.1% for October to December 2026, and both are tax-free and count under section 123 (formerly 80C) in the old regime. Sukanya’s money is hers and is locked until her education or marriage; PPF stays yours, with a loan and yearly withdrawals allowed from set years.
